Who We Are
Emily
Emily is the founder and lead stylist behind Modern Pet Care. With over a decade of experience in the pet care industry, her approach blends expert grooming technique with a deep understanding of animal behavior, health, and client trust.
Her career began in 2015 in the pet retail space, eventually evolving into a full-time focus on grooming by 2018. During this time, she trained under a master groomer and built her first dedicated client base at a grooming, boarding, and training facility. Later, she launched a house-call grooming business that emphasized strong client relationships and personalized care — principles that continue to define her work today.
From January 2021 to July of 2025, Emily managed a grooming salon within a veterinary hospital, expanding her knowledge of medical and behavioral grooming considerations while operating in a clinical, team-based environment. Alongside this hands-on experience, she has invested heavily into continuing education in grooming technique, behavioral science, staff development, and ethical business practices.
Modern Pet Care was created to bring all of these experiences together. Designed from the ground up to prioritize wellness, transparency, and personalized service, it reflects Emily’s commitment to raising the standard of pet grooming — for pets, families, and grooming professionals alike.
Mr. Sherman Ultra Soft
Sherman, a Bichon Frise born in January 2020, is Modern Pet Care’s official morale manager, client greeter, and occasional salon supervisor. He began his career accompanying Emily on house-call appointments and has since become a familiar face at Ark, where regular clients know him by name and always smile when they spot him popping up beside the front desk.
With a background in trick training and manners classes, Sherman brings both charm and a sense of timing — especially when it’s time for his treats. He’s known for standing proudly on his “protest pedestal” if things aren’t running according to his preferred schedule.
Sherman embraces his role as a style icon, happily rotating through chic new looks that always make him the center of attention. From bold dye jobs to playful trims, he handles each transformation with the calm confidence of a seasoned pro. He has a particular fondness for fluffy apricot dogs and Pomeranians — the spicier the better. He’ll be traveling daily in the mobile grooming van as companion and self-appointed supervisor of all operations.
Ivy
Ivy joined Modern Pet Care after beginning her grooming career at Ark in 2023, where she quickly became known for her curiosity, creativity, and compassion. Originally from Horsham, PA, she has always had a love for animals of all kinds and knew from a young age that she wanted to work with them in some capacity. After earning her cosmetology license in 2019, Ivy found the perfect way to combine her passion for styling with her deep affection for animals through pet grooming.
Since joining the field, Ivy has shown a consistent dedication to continuing education and professional growth. She now provides beautifully thorough bath and brush services — including fluff drying, de-shedding, and nail filing — with a level of care and attention that reflects both her training and her love for the work. She continues to expand her skill set, always seeking new ways to grow and improve.
Ivy brings a thoughtful and genuine presence to the salon. Her openness, particularly around neurodivergence, has helped shape Modern Pet Care’s approach to teaching, mentorship, and inclusive leadership. She is a bright and driven part of the team, and her journey as a pet professional is just getting started.
Oliver
Oliver is Ivy’s sidekick and the unofficial little brother of Modern Pet Care. A spirited Chihuahua mix with a big personality, he was rescued by Ivy in June 2024 after being found on the side of the road — abandoned just days earlier. Since then, he’s made an incredible transformation from wary and guarded to outgoing, social, and often hilariously opinionated.
Though you can still catch a flash of judgment in his eyes, Oliver is always open to a treat bribe and loves to show off his growing repertoire of tricks. Whether he’s exploring the van, keeping Ivy company, or holding court with the rest of the crew, Oliver brings pluck, heart, and a lot of character to the team.
